The BIG Eden Tree Plant

Eden Rivers Trust are looking for volunteers to sign up and help to plant 10,000 trees to improve and protect the Eden's rivers. The BIG Eden Tree Plant takes place on Friday 23 November. This year they are planting 10,000 trees in the Ullswater and Lowther valleys, as part of a natural flood managment campaign to slow the flow of the river and improve the rivers for wildlife (and people). They'd love individuals, groups, families, companies or organisations to volunteer their time and come and help them hit this amazing target.

It will involve a short walk to the site where you will get an introduction to the project and full instructions of what they want to do and why they are doing it.

It really doesnt matter if you haven't ever done anything like it before. The Eden Rivers Trust team will provide all the tools and equipment, they just ask that you come prepared for the weather - wear the right boots or wellingtons, bring waterproofs (top and bottom), lunch and bags of enthusiasm. They will provide hot drinks and some snacks (CAKE!!) to help to see everyone through the day.

Volunteers can spend the whole or part of the day on site starting at 10am and finishing by 4pm (dusk). If transport to get to Ullswater or Thrombi is required, can contact Eden Rivers Trust so they can arrange lifts and car shares where possible.

The BIG Eden Tree plant will see new woodland planted with a mix of native species on sites near Dockray (Ullswater) and Thrimby near Shap. The woodland will create a rich river habitat that will contribute towards mitigating the effects of flooding and sediment deposition downstream whilst improving water quality through intercepting pollutants and sediments upstream.
